Arrival Tanzania via Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Upon arrival, you are met by your safari guide and transferred to Kiboko Lodge. Kiboko Lodge is a beautiful lodge and is located in a unique nature reserve on the edge of Arusha National Park. On a clear day, you have magnificent views of both Mount Meru and the snowy mountain peak of Kilimanjaro. The lodge is approximately 45 minutes drive from Kilimanjaro International Airport and about 7 km from the main road to the lodge is a, albeit wonderful, 'bush' route.
Today, you have the opportunity to learn about the traditional customs of the Masai people of Tanzania. Visit a real Masai Boma (not staged). Most of our guests love this retreat because it offers authentic adventures in the wild.
You will also join us in a bush walk where you will learn more about the area and some local medicine obtained from Nature.
Spend the evening at lea-sure and enjoy the sundowner.
Soon after having your sumptuous breakfast; we depart for Ngorongoro Crater, we descend 2,000 feet into this magnificent crater to view wildlife. Here, a nearly perfect balance of predator and prey exist within the 102 square miles of the crater floor. Experience an unforgettable spectacle of African wildlife: a teeming world of elephant, rhinoceros, lion, hyena, zebra, wildebeest, to name a few, living in harmony in this unique eco-system. At the end of the day, we ascend the crater wall and drive to the lodge for a hot dinner.
Leaving the Ngorongoro Highland, we stop at the famed Olduvai Gorge, where some of the earliest remains of our species were unearthed by the dedicated Leakey family. Here in these desolate gullies, the jawbone of Zinjanthropus Man was discovered. The Gorge Museum explains the Leakeys' methods and their remarkable finds.
We then begin the journey into the great Serengeti traveling deep into the wilds of Africa. The sight of giraffe, lion, ostrich, zebra, and warthog will dazzle you. See herds of animals swiftly running across vast open spaces, and predators hunting prey. The multitude and diversity of species here are unrivaled.
Game viewing | Afternoon drive to the Western Corridor
Spend another day exploring the beauty of the Serengeti National park - you may opt to go for early morning game viewing and drive back for breakfast and later proceed with game viewing.
Today have an option for "HOT" air balloon safari, extra fee applies (US Dollar 598 per person).
Serengeti is arguably Africa’s breathtaking National park. It is the home of millions of large mammals, including what is so-called the Big 5: elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, and the rarely seen black rhinoceros. Over 500 species of birds have been recorded in the area, birds of prey, vultures, lovebirds, cranes, Bateleur, weavers, and our very own Shrike-Northern White-crowned Shrike.
Depart at 6.00am for early morning (sunrise) game viewing. Later drive back to the camp for a sumptuous breakfast while enjoying the cool breeze from acacia trees surrounding the camp.
Early morning is the best time for game viewing as most of the killings take place around this time. Our professional guide is always happy to share with you lots of hidden secrets in the Serengeti, why Serengeti shall never die, how Darwin's theory, survival of the fittest applies in the Serengeti and much much more...
After breakfast collect your picnic lunch and drive to Mwanza city.
Visit Mayega Children Centre on your way to Mwanza city.
Shrike Safaris through Busega Scotland, support abandoned or orphaned children at the Mayega Children’s Centre, just 10 miles from the Ndabaka gate entrance to the Serengeti’s Western Corridor... There are millions of children in Africa who have been abandoned or orphaned as a result of the AIDS pandemic. And this is a chance to join hands and make a difference.
While safaris may be our calling, these dear children are our joyful passion. How they love—and need—the friendship and support of visitors. Our mission is to inspire and enable Shrike guests to take informed and compassionate action.
There is heroic work being done! We enthusiastically urge all travelers to spend a few hours visiting the Mayega Children’s Centre. Give your time, your talent, your resources, and your love. Become a bridge of information and exchange between cultures.
What would you do?
Sing, dance, play. Talk about your profession to teenagers. Bounce babies on your knee. Perhaps help put up a school building. Or simply provide a window to the larger world. We guarantee that lives will be forever touched. And not just the children’s.
Later drive to Mwanza city - 'the Rocky city' for the mighty Lake Victoria - Africa's largest lake!
