Without a doubt, climbing Kilimanjaro is one of the world’s greatest adventures and challenges. As more people undertake the climb, we seek alternate routes with the most spectacular natural habitats, scenically beautiful and least traveled landscapes, including the rarely climbed northern circuit. The day you begin your climb matters as much as the route. With this in mind, we offer extraordinary non-technical routes to the summit (Uhuru Peak -19,340’). You will experience Mount Kilimanjaro's challenge safely with Shrike - all the way to the summit.
The Marangu route was the original route climbed by the first Europeans over 120 years ago, and the "easiest" route for those who want to trek the traditional direct route. On the Marangu route, we stay in A-frame huts, instead of tents. The climb is led by our highly trained and expert mountain guides, and we enjoy fine mountain grub prepared by our chefs who are trained annually. 8 Day Itinerary - 6 Days trekking
Machame is one of the older and more popular routes on Kilimanjaro. It is for physically fit people with some hiking experience. Because of the popularity, Machame gets incredibly crowded especially during the high seasons. We prefer the Umbwe route, as it is not overcrowded. On this route, we start our summit climb at midnight. 9 Day Itinerary - 7 Days trekking
Umbwe is one of the least climbed routes on Kilimanjaro, which makes it very appealing. We prefer this to the Machame Route which has become very crowded. For the first two days, you hardly see another climber. The rate of ascent is exactly the same as the other routes we trek and allows climbers who do not have extra time to summit happily and safely. On this route we start our summit climb at midnight. 9 Day Itinerary - 7 Days trekking
The Lemosho route is preferred by most Shrike trekkers. It is a longer route, allowing trekkers to acclimatize more readily to the altitude. This extra time increases enjoyment, and your chances of summiting. Lemosho is also one of the more scenic routes up Kilimanjaro and does NOT require a midnight summit ascent. A daytime summit is much preferred, as climbers avoid the crowds at the summit. The overnight in the crater more rewarding. 11 Day Itinerary - 9 Days trekking
The Northern Circuit is Shrike's newest route on Kilimanjaro. We take 11 days to traverse the entire mountain, trekking over the untouched northern slopes. On this track, the views are nothing short of spectacular and unpopulated; it is true wilderness, and rarely trekked. Because of the longer duration, you will acclimatize well, making your summit easier, and truly rewarding. 13 Day Itinerary - 11 Days trekking
