The experience with Shrike was excellent from start to finish. They genuinely aim to please and create a very personal, memorable experience.
Communication was outstanding even before we left the United States, and I felt very comfortable doing business with Mark. The pricing reflected the quality and care of the experience.
Visiting the Serengeti has been a dream of mine since I was about seven or eight years old. Watching animal shows with my dad was one of my favorite pastimes growing up. We didn’t have a lot of time and wanted to make the most of our stay in Zanzibar while also visiting the Serengeti.
Mark delivered top-notch service from beginning to end. He arranged our airport pickup in Mwanza, recommended a wonderful hotel, and met with us in person to ask what we truly dreamed of seeing. My husband can be a tough customer, but Mark’s care and professionalism quickly won him over.
Our driver and guide, Henry, was also amazing. After a lovely night at the recommended hotel, Henry picked us up promptly at 5:30 a.m. and we were on our way. We stopped for breakfast at a campsite run by a local family, where we enjoyed eggs, pancakes, fresh passion fruit, and avocado juice. The warm Tanzanian hospitality made us wish we could have spent more time there.
The drive to the Serengeti was both scenic and educational. Henry shared facts along the way and taught us about the local way of life. As a school administrator, I was especially intrigued by seeing so many children in uniform walking to school. We arrived in the Serengeti around 8:30 a.m. and within a couple of hours we were already seeing much of what we had hoped for. We enjoyed an early lunch and continued exploring.
The beauty of the Serengeti was everything I had dreamed it would be. Standing up through the top of the Land Rover, feeling the wind on my face and looking out over the plains, I felt immensely blessed to have had this experience.

Serengeti, Ngorongoro & Tarangire — Private Tanzania Safari

The first time you see an animal in its natural environment is always amazing to me — whether it was an elephant, cheetah, or leopard. I was always awestruck.
This was the most amazing trip I have ever been on, and I thought the Galapagos was going to be hard to beat.
Our guide, Twalib (TW), was just the best guide you could have asked for. He was extremely knowledgeable and ensured we got to see everything available in the Serengeti. We saw the Big Five all in one day. Everything else was icing on the cake — and there was a lot of icing.
Overall, the camps were amazing, everyone was very attentive to our needs, and you couldn’t have felt more welcome. Shrike Safaris is a first-class tour company, and Twalib was a first-class guide.
I will recommend Shrike Safaris to anyone I know contemplating a safari vacation. Thank you for giving me such a wonderful experience. It was a lifetime adventure.
